Candy, costumes and scares, Oh My!

After a year of a freezing winter, a pollinated spring, and a unbearably hot summer, ‘spooky season’ is back and better than ever.

“I like the Halloween parties,” sophomore Maiya Weaver said. “Seeing everyone dressed up and hanging out with my friends has always been my favorite thing to do throughout [the] Halloween [season].”

The month of October is filled with a variety of different fun things to do: going to the fair, carving pumpkins, going to haunted attractions, trick-or-treating. Some skip right over and start setting up for Christmas.

“[My favorite thing about Halloween is] that Christmas is only about two months away,” junior Maddy Murrell said.

Trick-Or-Treating; the name describes the night of Halloween, while there are some fun and tasty treats there are also some nasty tricks that people endure on this night of fright. Not just the children, but the teens and adults as well.

“The thing that scares me the most is probably the idea that people who wear a mask for their costume, you do not truly know who it is,” sophomore Ashlyn Stone said. “It could be an old man acting like a teen, and you would never know.”

The big debate that always takes place during Halloween is whether or not there should be a maximum age limit for trick-or-treaters, some think that there should be a age limit to the night of endless candy, while others, are 18 or 19 years old and still getting their bags full of sugar.

“You can never be too old [to trick-or-treat],” senior Colby Beeker said. “No matter the age [you are]people are going to want to get free candy.”

Whether it is with friends or all by yourself, favorite Halloween costumes are a must. It could be something small like a pumpkin, or go all out and be a zombie superhero.

“When I was in grad school, my friend and I dressed up as a ‘bag of Eminems’, ” assistant principal Lindsay Faraone said. “We wore trash bags and glued Eminem the rapper’s face on them so we were a ‘bag of Eminems.’”

Spooky season is supposed to have some spooky features, haunted attractions such as Woods Of Terror, Panic Point, Granville Haunt Farm, and DarkSide. They all guarantee a spook-tacular time.

“I go to haunted houses with my friends,” sophomore Caleb Greene said. “We literally just make fun of everyone who tries to scare us.”

Not all Halloween movies have to have scary creatures and serial killers. Some have a great pumpkin, others have three witches, and there is even one where there is a town named after Halloween.

“My favorite Halloween movie is probably Hocus Pocus,” Stone said. “It just gets me in the spirit for Halloween and plus it is just a really good movie.”

However you choose to spend your chilly, spooky, exciting October, do it safely because you know the saying; bad things happen to good people.
