Gilfort allows Juniors to leave campus for lunch

A big debate, which students seem to have each year, is popping up once again: should juniors have open lunch? For years now, seniors have been able to leave school for lunch and now it is being considered to give juniors the same privilege.

“I [have not] decided, [i am] considering [giving juniors the opportunity to have open lunch]. because most high schools in the district have open lunch for their juniors,” principal Danny Gilfort said.

Ever since word got out of principal Gilforts’ consideration, juniors have been acting a little more responsible than usual.

“I think that juniors should have open lunch because if [you are] responsible enough to have a license then [you are] responsible enough to go off campus and comeback in a timely manner,” junior Makayla Powell said.

Some juniors believe they deserve the same rights as seniors because at school we are all equal.

“I think it would be really cool because juniors do not get the chance to leave school so I think it would be nice,” junior Davis Brock said.

Although to current seniors, this may seem unfair, since they were not given the same opportunity, they do understand why this is now being considered.

“I wish I would have had it last year,” senior Colby beeker said. “It would have been nice to have gone out during lunch, especially before a big game”

As opinions are being created, principal Gilfort is taking careful consideration with his decision. Juniors are being hopeful that open lunch will officially be allowed for them, but only time will tell.
