Knights football undefeated so far in its' season
As fall is in season, and it is approaching the end of the year, high school football is at its peak of its season and its excitement. High school football is thrilling experience, whether it is being under the lights on Friday nights or being in the stands cheering on your school.
The Knights are sitting pretty in the Big Eight conference with a 9-0 record and 4-0 in conference play. The Knights have put the pieces together on the field; offensively, defensively, and on special teams to the most successful season Northern has seen in years.
“I think [it has] been so successful because of the leadership and experience of the upperclassmen. We saw what it took to win last year from the seniors and we just put in work in the off season and during practice to make games easier,” Senior Bryce Jackson said.
Coaching a football team can be a workload, from the pros to the middle school level. Enforcing winning as a coach can be easy, but having your team perform the winning mentality is the hard part.
“[Enforcing] hard work [has helped us win this season],” head coach John Hammett said.
When a football team is loaded with talent, it does not mean they will be in the state finals. It is important to have a team with talent, and chemistry. Team chemistry can be the one key to winning more games. When you are friends off the field, you will click on the field and learn how each other play.
“The chemistry this year is working because we are all bought into one ultimate goal and mindset and [that is] to win,” sophomore Caleb Steele said. “As well as not getting down on each other when we are in tough situations hit us.”
Everyone has one part of the season they enjoy the most. Some players enjoy winning, some enjoy meeting new friends and creating bonds, or some just simply love the sport itself.
“My favorite part about this season is the chemistry this team has [it has been] perfect so far this year,” junior Jaden Taylor said.
The Knights undefeated start to the season has came with lots of improvements since last season. They had a great year last season but are looking near perfect this year. This years improvements have came on and off the field.
“We have better communication, we talk more efficiently on and off the field this year than we did last year,” junior Cameron Traylor said.
The Knights have two more games this season, one against Northwood and one against Cardinal Gibbons. They hope to close out the season remaining undefeated and start their state playoff run as a high seeded and begin their ring chase.
