Americans should have a choice when it comes to their body
Recently, a man has been filmed roundhouse kicking a female due to opposing views on the debate of pro-life or pro-choice. Pro-life is the belief that if you are carrying a child, you are to give birth to that child, and that abortion is not an option. Pro-choice is the movement that believes that once impregnated, due to the fact that it is your body, you have the option to decide whether or not you keep the baby. Because pro-choice allows women control of their bodies, it is the clear winning side of the debate.
Pro-choice is seen as inhumane, for reasons in terms of abortion, which is terminating the fertile egg within the first 28 weeks of a woman’s pregnancy. Some people view this as murder of an unborn child, when truthfully it has only just begun the process of development. Opposing views of this are those in support of pro-life.
Someone who gets pregnant at an age too soon in their life is not prepared to take on the excruciating effects of a nine month pregnancy, let alone taking on the role of being a mother. Teenagers and young adults are continuously irresponsible, considering the amount raging hormones, as well as the high percentage of those who are less self-aware of their actions as they are under the influence of a substance, like drugs or alcohol.
Due to these factors, teenagers and young adults are naive, but an unplanned pregnancy is a mistake that can last a lifetime. There would be more people negatively affected by the baby being born (the baby and the mother, unfit to parent) than if the baby were aborted.
In the clip, the man is seen speaking to the lady, asking her if a 16 year old girl were to be blamed for getting raped, and if having to deal with the consequences of sustaining her pregnancy would be her fault. The man stance on the situation is pro-choice, so he believes that the girl should be able to abort, if that were her wish. In response, the lady interjects with her insight that aborting an unborn baby is hardly any different from killing a three year old. To that statement, the man proceeds to kick the lady.
Whilst this was not the correct way to handle a situation, in which your belief is being countered, the man’s example of a young adult becoming pregnant due to something that was not her fault gives all the more reason to be on the pro-choice side. It is where your body and your mind is important and where your opinion matters, because though in some cases, people carelessly fool around without acknowledging real-life consequences, if you are not fully ready to hold a child, you should not be forced to go through the process of having one.
