Big Mouth's second season: entertaining and informative

Many remember the hit comedy show that originated last year, Big Mouth. The show continued to gain so much popularity that it was renewed for a second season with ten new episodes. Big Mouth is about teens that are going through puberty, and their “hormone monsters” control their lives throughout the show. Their hormone monsters play a part in the development of their bodies and their decision making.

The first season focused mainly on the kids entering puberty, and the main character Andrew (voiced by: John Mulaney) trying to get a girlfriend. This new season has focused on the kids’ emotions and relationships with others. Girls may be insecure about their body, but the show made sure to emphasize the fact that all body types are beautiful. A character named Jessi (voiced by: Jessi Klein), spiraled out of control into a rebellion. She soon realized her mistakes and wanted to do better for herself. They also made sure to explain that being lonely is okay, and that its an easy problem to fix, you just have to be open to meeting others.

Big Mouth can relate to everyone, no matter your gender or sexuality. Big Mouth gives an inside view on teen emotions and how they react to embarrassing situations. The kids look for guidance from their hormone monsters, although the monsters have the tendency to be cunning and encourage them to do vulgar things. That is how the humor in the show is made, through the inappropriate torture and embarrassment from the teens. There is also a lot of obnoxious funny humor from their coach, who ironically knows less about sex ed than they do.

The characters throughout the show continuously grow and learn from their mistakes. They did a good job connecting humor with serious topics that teens should know about. If your looking for a cool new show to watch, Big Mouth will surely put a smile on your face.
