New film "The Hate U Give" reveals the struggles of racism and police brutality

The movie The Hate U Give was released worldwide on October 5, 2018. This movie is very popular because it is based on the award winning Angie Thomas novel. Overall, it was a great movie but it was very long and it’s length made it hard to focus on. Although this movie might appeal to drama lovers more, due to the dramatic heartfelt scenes.

The main characters in this movie are well known because of their roles in other famous movies. For example Amandla Stenberg who portrayed Rue in The Hunger Games, also portrayed (Starr) in this film.

Starr (Stenberg) is a teenager who saw her childhood friend Khalil (Algee Smith) get killed by a policeman when they ran off from a party after people started shooting. Starr lived in a poor area, but she attended one of the wealthy schools in her community with her brothers, because her mother did not want her children to have any problems with attending any school in the area they lived in.

This movie showed the diversity in the United States and what people think about each other and how Starr faced the pressure from everybody to stand up for what is right.

Some actors portrayed their roles very well, but other actors were just acting without making you feel what they really felt.

It was a very long movie and boring at some points because there were scenes that were not necessary, and if these scenes were not in the movie it would be shorter so people would like it more.
