New teacher Blaker has already made a mark on her students

Amy Blaker is the new biology and earth environmental science teacher who started at Northern on September 17th, 2018. She has been teaching for six years, and has previously taught at Carrington Middle school, Lucas Middle school, and J.F. Webb High school.

In her six years of teaching, she has had many fun opportunities of taking students to get real life experiences and being able to shine outside the classroom. Blaker took a group of students to Costa Rica for an economic trail trip.

“We went kayaking on Lake Arenal, took a lot of nature walks and hikes,[went] zip lining, and ate a lot of different foods,” sophomore Madison Cayton said.

Some teachers have a preference on what grades they like to teach and work with.

“I like teaching upperclassmen because they are more goal oriented towards what they want to do after high school,” Blaker said.

When new teachers are introduced into a classroom, students become curious about their teaching styles and how they can benefit form them.

“[Blaker is] a great teacher that actually cares about us graduating and being able to pay [for] our bills and our offspring,” junior Cameron Reams said. “[Blaker] puts studying before anything and reputation.”

Most students have doubts about a teacher they have never heard of before,(Blakers) class is a class everyone would like to be in.

“[Blakers class is] chill and laid-back, she makes sure we are doing what we are supposed to do,” freshman Jabarrie Kee said.

Students often get bored and have no motivation in classes that are strict and limited in freedom. Students like a class where they can have fun and a good time.

“[Blakers class is] really funny and she entertains [us] a lot,” junior Aniaya Edwards said.

A majority of students at Northern have had Blaker at Lucas Middle school. When students found out that Blaker was teaching at Northern, they were excited to see her again.

“I [am] excited about [Blaker being a teacher]; she is so down to Earth and makes learning easy [to] understanding,” sophomore Jordan Brown said.

After all, the students like Ms. Blaker and enjoy being in her class. While she is still making her first impressions, the community of Northern has already made her feel like family.
