Social worker Fields discusses role at Northern
Erica Higgins: What made you become a social worker?
Anne Fields: I like working with teenagers, I tried being a teacher [but there were] a lot of issues with students so, I [would] rather help them out then to be a teacher.”
EH: What makes you S.T.R.I.V.E (Obtain something) ?
AF: I think I am expired by kids, when I see kids that are enthusiastic or wanting to do better or wanting to make a change in their life, it makes me want to work harder at my job.
EH: Why do you love your job?

AF: I love my job because I like the community at Northern, I like the students here, I like the staff that I work with and I feel like everyone communicates well and really works well together.
EH: Do you use what you teach in your life?
AF: I always use what I teach in my life even though it is pretty hard to use but yes I try to use it as much as I can.
EH: What made you succeed?
AF: I had a lot of support when I was growing up in school from my family. And that really enabled me to help [me get] where I am today. I think with a lot of kids they do[not] have all of the same resources that I did when I was growing up and it can make it really really hard. So I like having a job where I can try in all the ways I can eliminate some of those barriers and provide those resources.
EH: What is one thing that you love about your job?
AF: I love getting to talk with students, I like being at the school there [is] a certain energy that exist in school thats pretty unique.
EH: What advice would you give a student or anyone in general who would want to become a social worker?
AF: I would say that I would tell that student to come talk to me, or talk to anyone that is a social worker. Just to kind of hear what the job is like and see what questions they might have and to talk to their teachers.
