Immigrants should be allowed the same opportunities as natives

As children, we most are taught the motto “sharing is caring.” This normally would have referred to one’s toys or maybe even food. However, one important thing that should always be shared amongst all type of people is opportunity.

There are many different types of opportunity, such as the opportunity to a better life and to achieve happiness. While most people in the world have access to these achievements, there are still many people that do not; this is why we should allow open immigration opportunities to all people into the United States.

Of course, the safety of our country is of the utmost importance when one is countering this ideal. However, most xenophobes only fear immigrants because of how they have been misrepresented in the news and on social media. Ever since the attack on the Twin Towers in 2001, America has become increasingly isolated from the rest of the world, and is slowly continuing its’ spiral into exclusion. This diluted form of isolationism can only be caused by humanities’ natural instinct for self-preservation and the Darwinian idea of “survival of the fittest.”

Although, keeping the country closed off from the rest of the world does not necessarily make us safe. A study shared by the U.S. extremist database shows that from 2001 through 2016, over 100 more people were killed by terror attacks done by homegrown violent extremists than islamic radicalists. So how can America justify turning its’ back on people in need?

There are people all over the world at this very moment suffering, hoping that maybe one day they may be allowed some semblance of a happy life, while most of us Americans disregard them and continue in our own versions of the “American Dream.”

While we sit around and complain constantly about all the things wrong with our country and its’ leaders, there are thousands upon thousands of people who would have nothing more than to be granted citizenship among us, to be given opportunities for success and happiness that they have been so unjustifiably kept from.
