New romantic comedy released during Valentine's day week.

With the recent celebration of Valentine’s Day, a new romantic comedy has made it to the big screens. On February 13th, Isn’t It Romantic, starring Pitch Perfect’s Rebel Wilson was released. Between Friday the 15th and Monday the 18th the film earned $14.2 million, and made $20 million during its first five days of being released, outselling Happy Death Day 2U which made $15 million.

In Isn’t It Romantic Wilson plays Natalie, a New York architect who is struggling to catch her big break at work since her and her skills usually go unnoticed by her company’s larger and wealthier clients. After being mugged in a subway station she gets knocked unconscious and wakes up in an alternate reality. In this alternate universe Natalie discovers she is the star of a real-life romantic comedy and the only way for her to go back to her real life is to make someone fall in love with her.

The film was directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson and also stars Priyanka Chopra, Adam DeVine, and Liam Hemsworth with music composed by John Debney. DeVine plays Josh, Natalie’s good friend and colleague who also happens to be secretly in love with her. Natalie ends up meeting Hemsworth’s and Chopra’s characters, Blake and Isabella, in her alternate universe.

Isn’t It Romantic is the perfect movie for anyone who loves rom-coms. It is rated PG-13 meaning it is targeted more towards adults or older teenagers and the humor appeals more to older audiences. Wilson’s humor balances well with the movie’s heartfelt message about self-love and the importance of making your own voice heard. Popular songs such as I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston and Express Yourself by Madonna are also featured in the film.

Isn’t It Romantic is currently in theaters and will most likely be available on DVD in the next coming year. It is recommended for anyone who enjoys feel-good films about love that can also make them laugh out loud.
