Young drivers learn the importance of road safety

Learning how to drive can be a stressful and overwhelming but luckily enough Northern offers its own Driver’s Education (more commonly referred to as Driver’s Ed) class. Driver’s Ed is a stress-free class that is offered in the morning from 6:45 to 8:30. In Driver’s Ed the teachers teach about road signs, road procedures, and road safety.

“Driver’s Ed shows to you about things you would not think of,” freshman Giselle Polanco said. “In Driver’s Ed they teach you about the safety of driving behind a wheel. Driver’s Ed also teaches about the dangers on the road.”

As a young adult some kids feel that driving can be scary so they want to be prepared driving can be a crazy experience for most kids who have never been behind a wheel which is why most kids want to take Driver’s Ed.

“Everyone drives in this world and I did not know how to so I decided to go ahead and get [Driver’s Ed] out of the way,” freshman Nate Hayes said.

Driver’s Ed makes you feel safer about driving there have been many young lives taken due to car accidents.

Driver’s Ed can be beneficial to lots of people especially to inexperienced drivers. The teacher's make students first experience of driving fun.

”I thought taking Driver’s Ed would be beneficial for me in the long run. Going out as a new driver and being inexperienced while not knowing anything about the road would not keep me and my peers safe,” sophomore Madison Clayton said.

Other students think Driver’s Ed could be beneficial by getting them places. Some parents can not always take their kids everywhere they may have a busy schedule

“I think it will benefit me later in my life by knowing how to drive and get to places,” freshman Cristy Mendez said.

Going into Driver’s Ed some students already know the basics of driving like where the brake and gas pedal is, but some parents do not have the time to teach their kids how to drive that is where Driver’s Ed comes in.

“Driver’s Ed is worth the time because it teaches you how to drive and the rules and the law of the road which most of you already do not know,” Driver’s Ed teacher Allan Goodwin said.

Over 2,000 accidents happen each other year involving young teens. Here at Northern is trying to help the inexperienced teen by offering a Driver’s Ed class.
