Captain Marvel is yet another win for the Marvel Movie franchise

Aliens, lots of fighting, and plot twists to the extreme are all major features of the recently released Marvel Studios movie Captain Marvel. The release of Marvel’s first ever woman featured superhero movie has been long awaited by fans, especially since Avengers: Infinity War was released in April of 2018.

The movie follows an extraterrestrial female Kree warrior named Vers, also known as Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), fighting in an intergalactic war between the Krees and the Skrulls. When she crash lands on Earth, she begins to see visions of having a another life, one where she lived on Earth. While she does not know what her visions mean, she does know that she needs to continue to fight the war she was trained to fight in, all the while attempting to learn more about herself and if she did truly have another life on planet Earth.

Captain Marvel is set in the 1990’s, and features the origin story of Agent Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and his reason for the creation of the “Avengers Initiative” that started the entire Marvel Movie franchise. This addition to the movie gives Marvel fans a inside look at how Fury came into his knowledge of the extraterrestrial, why he decided to direct the well known “S.H.I.E.L.D” and even provides insight to the reason he wears his infamous eye patch.

Throughout the film, there are many intense fight scenes that one would expect to be seen in a Marvel movie. These scenes are up to the Marvel standard as they all feature amazing music, special effects and of course some humor.

In fact, one of the best things about this movie was the constant use of comedic relief incorporated into the plot. Most scenes had the entire theatre laughing from one joke or another. Due to the time period of the movie many of the jokes that were made had remarks to the Marvel movies set in the future, some only true fans would be able to understand.

The movie being set in the 90’s provided an opening for the Marvel directors to incorporate some “blasts from the past” into many of the scenes. Many of the songs played were 90’s hits along with some now extinct stores such as Blockbuster and Radioshack making a comeback to delight many fans. Many 90’s references were made such as characters mentioning Brad Pitt and AOL, both of which were very popular in this time period. These references made the movie seem so much more authentic and also gave many so called “90’s kids” a reason to celebrate.

Brie Larson did an amazing job playing the character of Carol Danvers, this being her first Marvel appearance. She portrayed strength when she needed to and viewers can really see her as a superhero in every sense of the word.

One last sentiment toward this amazing and one of a kind film is that the two post credit scenes are a must watch. The first post credit scene gives some more hints towards what Avengers: Endgame will have in store for Marvel fans, picking up just after Avengers: Infinity War. The second scene is much more light hearted and comedic, however still just as important for any true fan of the Marvel movies.

The question of how the Avengers plan to save all of humankind still remains, but no doubt they will be in need of the newest Marvel superhero to save the day in Endgame which will be released April 2019.
