College players need time to strengthen their love for the game

As many know there is an enormous amount of controversy between the NCAA and the public, all because of one shoe. Zion Williamson plays for Duke and is arguably the best college basketball player in the association as of this season. But during the first Duke vs. Carolina conference game of the season, Zion ripped through his shoe and sprained his knee in the first 40 seconds of the game. This sparked a lot of talk whether student athletes should be allowed to bypass college and continue straight into the NBA.

Many have made arguments regarding money, and if players are treated fairly while playing in college with no profit. These student athletes do deserve financial gain from their amazing basketball talent, but the athletes also deserve growing an even stronger love for the game before they are focused on material things. The NBA has greatly declined in the sense of competitiveness over the years whereas college has been and will always be more competitive, this is because when athletes arrive to play in college they have to prove themselves and and their capabilities as a high level basketball player.

Taking all arguments into consideration, basketball athletes should not be allowed to bypass college. The rules should remain the same where athletes are required to play at least one year as a college athlete with no pay, because materialistic things like money will take away from the love for basketball these athletes have worked so hard to acquire. Plus who does not want a shot at a national championship?
