Hausmann provides unique laid-back energy on the field

Lacrosse is known as the fastest growing sport across the nation. The sport originated in the 1700s, when a Native American tribe wanted to find a past time to replace war. The sport was originally played with hickory wood and cow gut sticks, strung with cow leather. The ball was made out of deerskin and feathers mixed together.

Lacrosse is very popular in the Northeast of the US, as well as Canada. The youth is exposed to the sport just like the youth is exposed to football in the south, it is their “Main sport”. It can be used as a sport for, fun, or to be serious and try to go to college and further your career in the pros.

“It has allowed me to relieve stress and has been a positive influence on my life,” senior Trevor Hausmann said. “It gives me something to look forward to everyday.”

Hausmann has been playing for two years now, and has earned a captain spot this year. Captainship means a lot of things; Leadership, skill, and the ability to be a strong team player. He has been a huge help to the Knight’s defense, and the help shows.

“Defense is more connected and they play better as a unit,” junior Colby Dennis said. “The slides are faster and the placement is more organized.”

Lacrosse can be a difficult sport to pick up, but if you are athletic enough it can be a second nature. With only two years of experience under his belt, Hausmann has gained a lot of talent.

“His overall lacrosse IQ has improved tremendously and that has helped him become a sturdy part of our defense,” coach Luke Beauchaine said. “His ability to pass and catch, as well as pick up ground balls has improved.”

Hausmann is a two-sport athlete at Northern, starting on the offensive line during the fall for the football team, and starting for the Knight’s defense on the lacrosse team in the spring. Although he takes both sports very seriously, he seems a little more laid-back during lacrosse season.

“He has a different vibe on the lacrosse field. He is a lot more relaxed than he is on the football field,” junior Cameron Traylor said.

Overall, Hausmann has a very comical personality. He will never fail to put a smile on your face and is always laughing and cracking jokes. His personality brings something to the lacrosse team that is very special.

“His humor and jokes make the team click and come together,” sophomore Anthony Brown said.

Hausmann continues his senior season on March 22nd against Cedar Ridge, looking to finish out a strong two season. The Knight’s next home game is April fifth against Camden Catholic.
