Northern students discuss the tragic Ethiopian Airline crash
On March 10, 2019, a plane that took off out of Bole International Airport heading to Nairobi crashed shortly after takeoff. Investigations are still going on as to why the plane crashed as of right now it is a unknown plane malfunction, killing all 157 passengers aboard. There is a fundraiser set up in honor of some of the passengers, one being Michah Messent. Micah's parents made the fundraiser that is available online in remembrance for him. The plane crash has affected plenty of families and individual loved ones. An article was published after the crash “planes are becoming far too complex to fly”
The Northern community has a lot of feelings and different opinions. A lot of networks have been thinking of ways that the airline could help out the families that have been affected.
“What the airline can do for the families firstly would be to call them to make sure they are okay and talk to them personally on how they feel about it they could also do is give each family a small donation to help out,” freshman Erica Parker said.
There was 157 people on board and the plane crashed with in six minutes of taking off. A lot of people say this may affect them wanting to fly someday. Some may have a phobia, known as Aerophobia.
“This is definitely affected me wanting to fly someday because how do I know this will not happen to me or my family or even my friends,” freshman Kayla Holmes said. “People already have the fear of being really high up and now that a plane has crashed out of nowhere is crazy a bunch of airlines are gonna lose money because that is how a lot of people travel.”
This plane crash has taken a really big toll on a lot people. Especially since the crash had killed so many of innocent people.
“The [plane] crash was very tragic and it is something that definitely needs more attention and should definitely not be overlooked,” sophomore Stephen Daniels said.
Various people have different reasons of why the plane may have crashed, but many of the reasons may come from the hurt in people's heart.
“I know had that been one of my family members I would go crazy and probably blame the pilot probably mostly out of anger,” freshman Nadia Miller said.
Some students feel that this plane crash could have been prevented if more people took the time to check the plane for anything to make sure it is going to make it to its next destination.
“Plane crashes are awful and before every flight they should check the planes for like engine failure to see if the plane is sustainable to make it to its next location,” junior Christian Stanley said.
People have been making a lot of hypotheses of what the Boeing Airlines could have done to prevent the plane from crashing.
“I think that Boeing should have grounded all planes before there were any issues if they thought that there were mechanical problems,” social studies teacher Lindsey Lester said.
Everything considered the students and faculty at Northern feel this plane crash could have been avoided and wish well for all those affected by this awful event.
