Track team off to a good start this season

As springtime time rolls in and the indoor track season ends, it is time for the regular outdoor track season to begin. The indoor season prepared and trained the athletes all throughout winter for the regular season.

“Track is a lot of preparation,” track coach Raymond Wilson said. “We have had several members that have participated in indoor track to get ready for outdoor as well as athletes that participate in other sports to get them prepared for the season.”

Training for the season comes in many different forms. This depends on who the athlete is and how they like to prepare themselves.

"I try to work on keeping my knees up when I run to get good form so that I can be motivated to [become] the top runner,” junior Jamarrco Burnette said.

Most track athletes like to set individual goals to challenge themselves to do better in each meet that they have.

“[My motivation] to do [well] during meets are the goals that I set for myself to always do better than the last meet and [by] going to states,” senior Robyn Tinnin said.

Every team always wants the next season to be just as good as the last, and for the track team things are already off to a great start in accomplishing this goal.

“This season is looking way better than last season,” sophomore Madison Royal said. “In practice we do a whole bunch of drills to make us better and we have very dedicated members that are apart of the team this season that want to put in all of the work that is required.”

Being a part of a team means working together to help everyone reach their full potential and become the best they can be.

“During after school exercises we condition and go over the correct format for running and help all the new people to migrate their way on the team and be the best they can be,” sophomore Erick Rutt said.

All members of the track team have been working very hard showing a lot of dedication toward the team to make this season the best one yet. The amount of effort being put in by each member shows that our track team is determined to make this season one to remember.
