Math teacher Graham's teaching styles have proven effective to NHS students
Northern High School gained many new teachers this year that teach and contribute to not only the students but the school itself as well. Math teacher Bruce Graham is one of the new teachers that started this year at Northern.
“When I need extra help, Mr. Graham is always there to help me catch up with the material one on one,” freshman Nate Hayes said. “I can always count on him to help me out.”
Graham teaches three classes, which include his first period Honors Math III and his second and third period Math I. Despite the fact Graham just started teaching at Northern, the students seem to have become very fond of not only his character, but his teaching methods as well.

“A couple of my favorite things [about Graham] are that he does not make you feel any less than the other students that are ahead,” sophomore Amy Perez said. “If he senses you need extra help, he will give you packets or paperwork so that you can get some extra help and after tests he asks if you have any questions on the material.”
As if being a new teacher is not hard enough Graham also took on the role of coaching for the softball program. Graham previously coached softball for four years in Washington before joining Northern’s team.
“Growing up, baseball was and still is my favorite sport,” math teacher Bruce Graham said. “Making the transition to coaching softball was not bad at all and working with my players has been very rewarding."
"Ms. Rucker made mention that there might be an opportunity to join the coaching staff and Coach Rigsbee has more than willing to bring me aboard. I am looking forward to the rest of this season and many more after that," Graham said.
Math is a very difficult subject to teach, especially to high school students. Having a good teaching strategy is always key to getting the students to grasp the skill faster and easier.
“I hate math, but having Mr. Graham as my teacher makes it bearable,” freshman Freddy Oliver said. “ He keeps my attention throughout the class, so I am rarely ever bored.”
It is always a special moment when a teacher is able to turn on the light bulb for students, and Mr. Graham takes the time to ensure his students and players are getting the best experience possible. Northern High School is hoping to hold on to this new, excited, and thoughtful math teacher.
