Recent opening of Eno Animal Hospital is helping Northern students get a head start on their future
Many students at Northern know what it is like to have a pet. It is a big responsibility and taking care of it can be tiresome. Sometime, however, what a pet needs is something more than what an owner provides, which is why places like Eno Animal Hospital is here to help.
The Eno Animal Hospital is a new veterinary clinic that has just recently opened its door to customers, and is located directly across the street from Northern High School. Such a close proximity to the school has provided opportunities to students interested in animal science.
“Students visit a veterinary hospital to gain professional experience,” animal science teacher Demekia Taylor said. ”Within their visits they learn to collect blood, restrain animals, and learn proper job etiquette.”
The animal hospital is an exciting experience that future veterinarians suggest you should take part in.
“It gives you the opportunity to see what it is like to take care of animals and includes a lot of hands on activities,” senior Robyn Tinnin said.
Students have decided to become veterinarians because of their passion and love for animals.
“[Volunteering at the Eno Animal Hospital] has been like living in one of the shows you see on TV of people nursing animals and the joy you get from helping a cute and furry animal,” senior X’zavier Mcfadden said.
To become a Veterinarian one must go through years of school and the volunteering before this begins helps students get a head start.
“The volunteering will really benefit me because it can go on resumes and at the end of our volunteering we take an exam and get an vet assistant certificate which gives us an advantage in applying for vet jobs,” senior Ashton Humphrey said.
Some students have chosen to work at the clinic to gain experience for a future career.
“[Working] at the animal hospital offers a ton of new opportunities and you get paid 15 dollars an hour,” senior Jacob Cooper said.”Plus not having to take a college class to become a veterinarian.”
As a result, Northern animal science program has created a perfect outlet for this generation to get a head start on their training for future professions.
