Williamson creates a positive atmosphere for softball players and peers

As a senior who has been playing the game for years, senior Paige Williamson has made a huge impact on everyone in the softball community at Northern. Williamson started playing softball at Bull City little League (formally known as North Durham little League) when she was six, and continued to play from middle school all the way through high school.

“Paige has always been a leader,” softball coach Alan Rigsbee said. “She [is the] communication between the coaches and the rest of the team and she has always done everything that she could do to help the team.”

When times get tough throughout practices and games, Williamson is known to always keep an uplifting spirit to motivate others to keep going.

“[Paige] has picked the team up when we are all getting down,” junior Melody Harmon said. “She cares about the success of the team as a whole rather than just her, as an individual, being successful.”

Williamson has bonded with many players in practice which have lead to great friendships outside of practice as well.

“Northern softball has ups and downs, but one thing that I am thankful for is the group of girls that have each others backs,” Williamson said. “We build friendships not only on the field but off and I love competing and joking around with the girls.”

Williamson is not only a team player but is also a role model for many girls on the softball team as well.

“Paige has affected me and the team by creating a positive and influential motivation,” junior Kaysi Mcdaniel said.

“She [is] an uplifted spirit and encourages us to keep our heads up and work hard.”

Not only is Paige a good asset for her older peers, but she is also an even better leader to the underclassmen on the team.

“Paige is always smiling and cheering on the team no matter if we are winning or losing,” freshman Riley Horton said.

“Her head is always held high and she has really taught me to forget my mistakes after they happen and she is an amazing teammate and leader to be able to play with.”

Paige has made a large impact on the softball team, as well as the team has made a big impact on her life.

“I want to be on a softball team in college or on a rec team after high school so I hope this [is not] the end of my softball career,” Williamson said. “But in my future I would like to be a nurse.”
