Goalie of the century
John Mincey is a senior goalie for the Northern High school lacrosse team. He is nationally ranked 2,945 and his NC rank is 117 as a lacrosse player. Over 3 years of playing, he has played a total of 1229 minutes and had 314 saves. He was also selected to play in the all star game for seniors in the state of North Carolina. Overall, Northern’s record this season was 4-10 and in Conference they went 1-5.
“[John] was one of the best goalies Northern has had,”sophomore Will Garrett said.
In all statistical areas, Mincey has stats higher than the national average. He has worked hard his high school career, and has influenced all the players around him.
“John has influenced me not to give up, and to always stay focused on the game. I love that man; my goalie forever,” junior Dayshaun Marshall said.
In Mincey’s last game of his high school career, he racked up 13 saves, had a save percentage of .433, and most other goalies average about 6-7 saves per. Many young sophomore players look up to John as a role model and a great player.
“He pushed me to be a greater player and a greater [person],” sophomore Nate Summerell said. Of all the memories John has made in his time at Northern, he has one to call his favorite.
“[My favorite memory] would have to be the bus rides. That was just a good time to talk, laugh, joke and become more than just teammates,” senior John Mincey said.
Coach Luke Beauchaine has been John’s coach over the last two years and has seen him improve mentally and physically. He did not lead the team to the playoffs this year but he has helped John grow into the athlete he is today.
“[John] has improved so much over the past four years. It was really unthinkable how much better he got,” head coach Beauchaine said. “I’m really proud of everything he did for this team.”
John’s high school lacrosse career has come to an end but now he is ready to begin a new chapter in his life. Possibly playing college lacrosse. Northern lacrosse will always remember him as a good goalie and great teammate.
