Xavier looks to continue athletic success after high school

As someone who has been involved in many activities among his years at Northern, Xavier Miller has made his mark on multiple students, coaches, and athletic programs during his four years.

Miller has played football, lacrosse, and ran track throughout high school and will be attending Catawba College this coming fall on a football scholarship. He started playing football as well as running track in seventh grade at Lucas middle school but he just started playing lacrosse this year.

“Xavier has shown tremendous growth over the past few years as he has dedicated a lot of time and effort to the team,” track coach RJ Wilson said.

“He has become a true leader for the team [as] his personality drives our team so when [he is] smiling and engaged it encourages everybody else to be as well.”

When times get tough throughout practices and games, Miller is known to always keep an uplifting spirit to motivate others to keep going.

“He helped me [to get] strong headed and realize that when people get into my head then you just [have to] ignore them,” senior Emanuel Paschall said.

“He likes to hype everyone up when [it is] game time and [he would] do anything for anybody.”

Miller is not only a team player but is also a role model for many of the athletes on his teams as well.

“Xavier is overall a very nice, kind-hearted, and funny person to be around,” junior Kendrick Brown said. “On the field he is a totally different person but his personality still shines very brightly while playing.”

Not only is Xavier a good asset for his older peers, but he is also an even better leader to the underclassmen on each of the teams.

“Xavier is like a big brother to me,” sophomore Jaylon Chestnut said. “ He is a great leader on and off the field and is very passionate about what he loves to do.”

Miller has made a large impact on each of his teams, as well as they have made a big impact on his life as well.

“[In the future] I see myself continuing to play football [as] I have developed a lot of love for it but I will miss the people and the culture at [Northern] and the overall vibe that it gives off,” senior Xavier Miller said.

Miller’s impact on his teammates and coaches has developed into something very positive over his four years at Northern. Overall he has become a better athlete and is ready for the next chapter of his life.
