California synagogue shooting leaves families torn

In the past decade gun violence has frightened many individuals in America. The most recent shooting was the deadly shooting at the Poway Synagogue in California on April 27, 2019. This was the day when Jews feared for their lives due to gun violence.

“People should stop being so careless because people need to understand that these parents have kids, and these kids are depending on their parents to come home,” freshman Maria Orellana said.

Some students feel that people have different opinions, not only is it terribly wrong to take ones life but we have to understand that by destroying one persons life can impact 100 others.

“The world is not loving, the world has grown to be so hateful. Everyone feels that they need to worry about their families and themselves,” freshman Trinity Wallace said. “Nobody is trying to help the next person be better. We are all worried about the color of someone's skin and where they are from.”

During the terrifying shooting at the synagogue countless people were injured. A 60 year old women risked her life by jumping in front of the rabbi saving his life.

“I lost someone really close to me and it was over something stupid and I miss them so much,” freshman Brianna Tinnin said. “I also wish people would put down the guns and learn how to love and laugh. There are little kids who are looking up to our generation for answers and I just feel bad we can not answer because we do not know ourselves.”

There has been a lot of fundraisers trying to help out the hurt families who need extra support. Churches have been posting on Facebook as well as many other social media websites about the injured kids and how they must feel to see their parents hurt.

“My church has heard about it and they are putting money and food cans together to send to the hurt families to show that we care and to help out as much as we can,” freshman Nadia Miller said.

Many people have their own opinions which mainly summarize with the shooting being a completely inhumane tragedy. The one question people always ask is why would something like this happen?

“We need more officers guarding churches and making sure that people can embrace their religion in peace,” physical education teacher John Hammett said.

People have different views on this situation and many people think that we can do better in the world, and hopefully ensure the safety among different races and religions.
