Marvel phase 3 comes to a spiraling conclusion in Avengers: Endgame
After 11 years of laughs, tears, and anticipation, Avengers: Endgame brought the entirety of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) together to bring phase three to an epic, action-packed conclusion. Following Infinity War and its less than satisfying ending, fans could find nothing better to look forward to than Endgame, hoping and praying that the Avengers would be able to team up for one last battle to undo Thanos’ “snap”.
Infinity War followed the Avengers and friends fighting the evil titan Thanos who wishes to “cleanse” the universe of half of all creatures in order to save the finite amount of resources at their disposal. Thanos wants to obtain the “Infinity Stones” which could accomplish his goal with just the snap of his fingers.
Endgame picks up just after the snap, and those who watched the Captain Marvel post-credit scenes were able to get a glimpse of the first few seconds of the film before going to view it in theaters, seeing that Thanos did indeed achieve his goal of ridding the universe of half of all creatures.
The entire rest of the film follows MCU characters fighting to get the world back to the way that is was before Thanos. Before the movie was released, many fan theories circulated about how the heroes would achieve this goal. A few of these included using the help of Captain Marvel to go back in time and defeat Thanos before he could ever snap his fingers, to the soul stone being a sort of holding place for those that were victim to the snap, and the heroes can find a way to get them out somehow.
There are many, many theories out there, and while some of them have turned out to be true and some have turned out to be completely off, there is only one way that Endgame can end and as anyone who has watched the trailer would know, the MCU characters are willing to do “whatever it takes” to get their friends and family back.
Like any MCU film, this one has plenty of fight sequences along with music to accompany them. Of course it is only fitting that the most anticipated movie of the year has some of the best fight scenes for any Marvel movie ever made.
Like Infinity War, this movie also features a “girl-power” fight scene, featuring as many women MCU characters Marvel could fit in one shot. The fight sequences are so carefully choreographed to the music playing in the background, the movements so fluid, that a movie-goer might believe they are watching a dance.
One amazing quality that Marvel has is its ability to place comedy in the most somber of scenes. This film is obviously one of the darker Marvel movies, as half the MCU characters were snapped into oblivion. Despite this, Marvel writers and directors were able to incorporate light hearted jokes and banter between those who are left. This humor and comedic relief helps with lightening the mood, making comedy during darker portions of the movies a sort of staple of the MCU.
It is challenging to go into the details of the flaws of this movie without spilling any spoilers. Like any film it cannot be perfect, and of course there were a few moments that left viewers confused and wondering what the Marvel writers were thinking. The film ended leaving more questions than answers as well, fans are left with unfinished story lines and mysteries surrounding certain characters and one can only hope these will be somehow answered in the upcoming MCU movies.
Endgame brings Marvel phase three to an end, but opens the door for phase four to begin. Movies that fans have to look forward to in phase four include Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3, Doctor Strange 2, a Black Widow solo movie and all of the +Disney TV shows to be released in December of 2019.
These films can hopefully answer a few questions that were left in the air at the conclusion of Endgame. Even if they do not shed light on these mysteries, fans can just look forward to seeing the movies from the famous franchise that will do whatever it takes to keep the world guessing what is coming next.
