Teens are Obsessed with New Social Media Craze, "Tik Tok"

Recently, the new craze going around is the popular app Tik Tok. Ever since Vine shut down, many people have wanted an alternative source of comedy and means of promoting their brands through social media.

Formerly Musical.ly, Tik Tok is a social media platform mainly for teens to make short videos of themselves or of their friends to share to the world. There are many categories of videos that are posted each and every day such as comedy, sports, dancing and lip-syncing.

Adults have also had their fair share of making videos, using the large platform as a way of promoting their business and brands.

Tik Tok is the perfect mix of Vine and Musical.ly. With a fair share of lip-sync and comedy, it joins the two apps perfectly. Also, with the addition of the adult community it gives users of all ages the opportunity to become “Tik Tok famous.”

A popular feature of Tik Tok is the "for you" page, which is a separate feed of videos that is automatically selected for you based on the videos you like. Adding the hashtag “#foryou” gives the app permission to share your videos on other people’s “for you” page. This page is the perfect way to skip past the videos in categories that were not selected when the account was created.

Just like with any other app, parents have their opinions about Tik Tok, which is a downside to the app. Instead of letting teenagers have a platform to express their opinions and show off what they are proud of, parents always seem to find a way to be offended by, or have an issue with the content.

Another drawback of Tik Tok is the outside media attention it gets. It seems like everyday news networks attack the app and only show the downsides, yet the positives far outweigh the negatives.

In conclusion, Tik Tok is an all around amazing app that gives teenagers and adults a massive platform to share funny videos and promote their brands to a younger audience.
