Unpopular Opinion: Golden State is Overrated

The Golden State Warriors are one of the most popular teams in the NBA, either hated or

loved by many. They have been in the finals since 2015, playing the Cleveland Cavaliers

four times and beating them three times. The Warriors have a dynamic duo, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, also known as the “splash brothers.” They got this name because they are amazing from the three point line. They were soon joined by Kevin Durant in

2016, who helped them win the 2017 and 2018 finals. In 2019, the Warriors had another good season, but Curry and Durant were the only stand-out players during games. Klay had his moments, but they were not consistent. He had a big game in 2015 where he scored 37 points in a quarter in 2017 he scored 60 points in a game and in 2018 scored 52 points in three quarters.

There are other games where Klay performed well but none where you could say he “showed out.” The Warriors have been playing around Curry in the past years and then Durant when he joined, and at this point they were a super team. During the 2019 playoffs, the Warriors played the Houston Rockets, Portland Trailblazers and the Los Angeles Clippers. The Warriors played the Clippers in the first round and beat them 4-2. The semi finals game against the Rockets was supposed to be the hardest of games but again, they won 4-2 and going on to beat the Trailblazers 4-0. With records like these, the Warriors were headed to another finals win.

Durant won the majority of their games solo, meaning that not even Curry or Klay were doing much. Curry did do a lot during the Clippers and Trailblazer games but did not show for some of the Rockets game. It went downhill when it came to the finals, where they had to play the Toronto Raptors. They won two games but they had to fight for them, both being close. Some of their loses were even closer. This was because they failed on consecutive drives in the first half of their games and came back in the third and fourth quarter.

During their last two games Durant ruptured his Achilles in Game 5 and in Game six, Klay tore his ACL and will miss the 2019 season and Durant was traded to the Brooklyn Nets for D’Angelo Russel in the preseason, limiting their big men. Coming out of their third game, losing to the Phoenix Suns 121-110, Curry ended up injuring his left hand. He may be out for the majority of the season, which does not look good for the Warriors since they are 1-3 and have to play the San Antonio Spurs for their next game. The Warriors have no chance at getting to the finals this season and maybe not even Playoffs.with them having big injuries and having to start players who get nearly no play time against stacked teams such as the Lakers and the Clippers, their best option this season is to punt it and get ready for the next season.
