Northern Looks To Rebound After Last Basketball Season

As the winter season approaches, winter sports are right around the corner. The Northern Knight’s basketball team has been receiving some hype for the upcoming season, gaining a lot of talent this offseason.

Coming off a rough season last year finishing at 10-17, the Knights look to turn it around and make a push for the playoffs this year. An abundance of offseason workouts have helped the team improve.

“The most exciting [part of the season] is the swagger the team has this year and the talent,” senior Khadyfe Downey said.

During basketball games, the crowd really gets into the games. Just like football season, the students get together and come up with themes for the games. Inclusive activities, like joining the student section, makes the game so much more enjoyable

“[We are] looking forward to the season as fans because of the talent we have on our team,” senior Tanner Horton said. “It will also be fun because [it is] my last season, and I want to have the best experience possible.”

Playing a sport will help your lifestyle off the court or field. Being surrounded by people with the same goals and wanting to be successful will help you strive for greatness.

“[Playing basketball] teaches dedication and installs a good work ethic,” junior Jahvarious Carter said.

The main person on the court that can see improvement from the team are the coaches. The coaches monitor the team year round and help everyone get better.

“Since last season we have taken on a lot of youth, but the kids drive to succeed is much different than last year,” assistant coach Horne said. “They are willing to work as a team which will always produce positive outcomes.”

As seasons come and go, the team changes and the chemistry can get better or worse. The talent does not matter if the team chemistry is not on the right level.

“We all get along this year, it will be a fun season,” senior Jacob Cooper said. “It will be a good season to end my high school basketball career on.”

The Knights kick their season off at home against the Voyager Vikings on Wednesday, November 20th. Make sure to come support your Knights and cheer as hard as possible.
