Popeye's New Addition to The Menu
“Love that chicken from Popeyes”; A jingle that has been proven true by the violence surrounding the new Popeyes chicken sandwich and its millions of customers. This new addition to Popeyes’s menu has received loads of attention.
Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, an American fast food chain known for its Louisiana-accented fried chicken, biscuits and sides, released a new chicken sandwich in August of 2019. Since then, there has been plenty of drama associated with the new meal, including brawls, an empty supply of chicken, a countless number of social media memes, and even a stabbing. The Popeyes chicken sandwich has triggered a nationwide fast food frenzy.
Some who have not yet tried the new chicken sandwich say they are tempted to try it because of the hype surrounding it.
“I always see people talking about how good [the sandwich] is on Snapchat and stuff, so it makes me want to try it,” sophomore Libby Wicker said. “Plus, people are fighting over [the sandwich] so it must be good.”
On the contrary, others who also have not yet had the sandwich say they do not have any desire to try the new meal, despite the hype surrounding it.
¨I feel like [I am] going to go out of my way to Popeyes, wait in a line, and then spend money just to be disappointed,” junior Corbyn Poe said. “I just think [the sandwich] is going to be overrated.”
Some who have tried the chicken sandwich believe it lives up to expectations and is worth all the publicity.
“I think the sandwich is delicious and I understand why people keep talking about it,” freshman Isai Gonzalez said.
Others who have tried the sandwich do not believe it is worth all the attention it has been receiving.
“All the hype about the new sandwich made me think it was going to be super good but it was just another fast food meal; nothing special,” sophomore Chris Kujawa said. “I could go to Chick-fil-A right down the road and get a sandwich that tastes the exact same.”
Some people have specific opinions about the violence surrounding this new chicken sandwich.
“I [do not] care how good that chicken sandwich tastes, it is just a sandwich,” math teacher Belinda Thorne said. “The fact that people are beating each other up over it is ridiculous.”
Despite the varying opinions about the new Popeyes chicken sandwich, it is safe to say this recent addition to the Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen menu has stirred up some fast food drama.
