The presidential race of 2020 has many implications for the future of the country. Candidates could either be pioneers who take the country to new heights, or they could be failures who pull the country down with them. However the best candidate has to be democrat Bernie Sanders from Vermont. Bernie Sanders is not new to the race as he ran back in the year 2016 against Hilary Clinton for the democratic nomination. Which he eventually lost, but now he is back and even more energetic to be the next leader for the United States.
Bernie has been a career politician. While that has come to be held against other candidates, for him it has actually benefited him greatly. Sanders’ voting record as a senator has been great and unprecedented in terms of civil rights laws. Sanders has also shown massive support for marginalized groups of people such as the African-American and LGBTQ+ communities, by being very progressive and emphasizing the advancement of their groups. Sanders has also made sure that he has representation in campaign by having diverse individuals in charge of the proceedings in the political sphere.
Sanders’ policy is also lightyears ahead of the competition and his strongpoints are economics and healthcare. Sanders has been strong on the conversation of raising the minimum wage and adding rent control to help place people with low income in affordable housing, thus decreasing the homeless population. Sander’s free medicare would be revolutionary as it would be the first of the sorts in American history. Imagine a healthcare system where you cut-off an arm or leg to fix a broken one. Sanders' campaign policy would be protective of all people who are lower income and alleviate some of the stresses capitalism has on people.
2020 is going to be a big year for America and could change the course of history just the way that 2016 election did. But to ensure that the country heads in a good way, we need somebody who can compete with Donald Trump and Sanders’ is that person. Bernie was one of the last two standing Democrats in the 2016 election, until he eventually lost to Hilary Clinton. This election cycle Sanders has come back even better by placing in the top three of all the primaries taking place in the last two months. Primaries are a good way to gauge a region’s values favorite presidential candidate and who the respective political party should look to promoting as their main person.
Lastly Bernie Sanders is possibly the person that could push politics into a new era of progressivism. There is an upstart of young and upcoming politicians who are strongly supportive of the advancement of struggling Americans and hope to fix a system that obviously has holes inside itself. Bernie has been vocal in his approval of these newcomers and hopes they could take over the reigns when his career is over. However the most important thing is that Bernie is getting them in the door and helping establish their footing.
Overall the presidential race is a hard thing to predict, but if we want the best outcome for the country, Sanders’ is the choice.
