The Coronavirus is a type of respiratory illness that originated in China. Health officials think Corona appeared in the Huanan seafood wholesale market in December 2019. Corona has a possibility of starting with an animal, but is now being spread from person to person.
“The coronavirus is a very dangerous disease,” Spanish teacher Antonio Makasi said.
Symptoms are showing up in people within 14 days of exposure to Corona. The symptoms consist of coughing, fever, shortness or breath, and respiratory issues. Coronavirus is now referred to as COVID-19.
“There are many ways to prevent corona, wash your hands and keep areas around you clean,” junior Madison Lewis said. “This disease is spreading very quickly and the numbers are [growing rapidly].”
Coronavirus has been within proximity of the Triangle. There have been no confirmed cases in the state of North Carolina. However, people have been tested in Raleigh-Durham International Airport. There’s also been false-alarm cases in Duke University Hospital.
“I kept thinking about how surreal it was in the same building as me, with the virus,” senior Maya Dunbar said. “The hospital was very pre-cautious with who was able to visit patients.”
It is very important to keep surfaces sanitized so that it can prevent and kill germs. Killing germs can be a huge life saver in this situation.
“Ever since the corona outbreak occurred, it caused me to become [more aware] to the germs so that I could stay healthy,” junior Jordan Brown said.
This disease has become very serious and life threatening. 11,396 people have recovered from coronavirus. The current death toll is 1,770 people.
“This is a very serious virus and I think people should take this seriously and do their best to prevent this disease,” junior Jaylon Chestnut said.
Coronavirus is a very serious disease and is traveling very fast. It may be hard staying away from the disease but preventing it could save you.
